After repeatedly being given a “clean bill of health” Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an “aggressive” form of prostate cancer. This comes on the heels of his interview with special council Robert Hur being released, demonstrating his inability to recall facts and dates revolving around his own personal life.
Biden’s office announced his diagnosis. They said that he and his family are currently evaluating possible options for treatment.
CBS reported that the cancer has become so aggressive that it’s reached his bones, likely indicating that this cancer isn’t new, and went un-noticed for a period of time unknown.
The outlet also reported that the cancer is receptive to hormones, making it more easily manageable than other forms of cancer - but the stage of cancer is already quite evolved.
It is characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (grade group 5). He was evaluated last week after a small nodule was discovered in his prostate. This promoted further exams and the discovery of the cancer.
Prostate cancer is the second most common form of cancer, topped only by skin cancer. 13 in every 100 men will develop prostate cancer in their lives according to the Cleveland Clinic.
